Mila Says: Annie
Review by: Nancy Churnin, Mila Vincent, and Johanna Luza.
Mila Vincent, fyi50+ and Dallas’ youngest theater critic, began her journey as a child theater reviewer at just four years old with Cats at The Firehouse Theatre in 2019. Now nine, Mila has reviewed productions across Dallas-Fort Worth, though The Firehouse Theatre remains close to her heart. Thrilled to review Annie for the first time, she was joined by her co-reviewing grandmother, Johannah Luza, and her six-year-old sister, Avivah, who joyfully sang the show’s songs all the way home.
Mila’s Review:
It was so much fun going back to The Firehouse Theatre! I got to see Annie! I knew nothing about the story, so it was new.
Annie is an orphan. She lives in a house with other orphan girls and a mean lady who takes care of them. Annie thinks her mom and dad will come back to get her someday. Then, Oliver Warbucks (Keegan Arnold), a really rich man, invites her to spend the week of Christmas at his house. He has maids and everything. She’s so excited! Everyone likes Annie, and Annie likes them too, but she still thinks her parents will return someday. I’m not going to say more—it’s a surprise ending.
The girl who plays Annie is Eliza Chabot. She was great! I don’t know how she remembered all those songs she sang! I don’t think I could do that. My little sister came along and tried to sing the songs, too. One song was “Tomorrow,” and another was “It’s a Hard Knock Life.” My sister sang the second one all the way home!
We both just loved the whole play. And guess what? One of the cast members, Ruby Chabot, was my babysitter once! It’s so fun when you know someone in the play. I think you and your kids should see it. You’ll love it! And I bet you’ll sing all the way home.
Johannah’s Review:
We always love The Firehouse Theatre. They’re so friendly and welcoming. I, too, was amazed by Eliza Chabot’s performance. I think that little girl will be a star someday.
There wasn’t a dull moment in the show—it was perfect for every age! The theatre was packed, so I’d recommend getting your tickets now. It’s a wonderful way to start the Christmas holidays!
