Glamp in Luxury for the Perfect Bastrop Getaway
We wanted something different to spend a weekend. I had heard of glamping — “glamorous camping” — so I did some research and found the perfect location: The Reserve at Greenleaf, two miles northeast of Bastrop.
Weekend Home Away From Home
Our luxury yurt cabin was 450 square feet with sturdy construction, a lodgepole pine ceiling, and a domed roof skylight for stargazing. I felt so much more protected than what I thought a canvas yurt might be. We chose the Agave yurt from four yurt cabins; all were filled with a variety of amenities and, unlike typical “camping”, include an actual toilet along with highspeed WiFi. You can leave home but still have a bit of the outside world if you choose.
During our stay, we enjoyed delicious complimentary snacks and a delightful s’mores kit for dessert each night at the fire pit. Complimentary sodas are stocked in the frig. Both coffee and tea are readily available.
Our yurt had no TV, but we didn’t miss it. We felt cozy and at home. This experience was so much more luxurious than my original idea of glamping.
Activities Abound
Each morning we enjoyed sitting on the private deck, listening to the birds, and watching the butterflies.
Talk about communing with nature! We also enjoyed playing games like cornhole, frisbee, and ladder ball.
But most exciting was the hiking. There are six miles of guided or self-guided hiking trails, along with an additional nine miles of hike and bike trails near Lake Bastrop, a 25-minute walk from the cabins.
Fishers will enjoy the catch-and-release pond on the property, and the more adventurous can rent a kayak to paddle down Lake Bastrop or the Colorado River.
Bastrop: Pure Texas Hospitality
Old Town Bastrop is ten minutes away from the yurts. Bastrop’s friendly streets include the river walk and a historic district with hometown shopping.
Bastrop is not lacking in eateries or drinkeries, and we felt a home among friends there. Try Maxine’s Café & Bakery or Paw Paw’s Catfish House. Enjoy live music at Neighbor’s Kitchen and Yard. Taste Copper Shot Distillery’s Shine Whiskey, or sip wine at Colorado River Winery.
Who knew glamping would be so relaxing and so much fun at the same time? It was an adventure I recommend for everyone.
