Living the Simple Life…in Sunny Costa Rica
Many women find joy after 50. It’s a time of new freedoms and a great time to re-invent yourself. For some, that means a new career, a new love, or becoming an empty nester. For others, it may mean winding down a job and planning for retirement.
That is where my second act begins.
I spent many years working with elderly patients, helping them navigate through the maze of home care solutions. These were wonderful years. Many of my clients struggled with short-term memory, but the memories of their pasts were intact. I listened to their stories with awe and wonder. My favorites were those of World War II veterans.
My clients taught me that life can be short-lived; we must approach it with the courage of an adventurer and without regret. Someone once said, “It’s better to look back on life and say, ‘I can’t believe I did that,’ than to look back and say, ‘I wish I did that.’”
In the spirit of the life, wisdom, and experience of my clients, I became empowered to begin planning my Second Act with the goal of simplifying my life. For me, this meant freeing myself from financial debt and material things, while also learning to live with less.
My next chapter will consist of moving to the coastal village of Tamarindo, Costa Rica, and learning to live la pura vida… the simple life.
Costa Ricans (or Ticos) use pura vida to say hello, goodbye, or to express that everything is excellent!
Costa Rica is known for its pristine beaches, waterfalls, and fertile volcanic soil used to grow the finest coffee beans in the world.
In my Second Act, I choose to live life fully in a brave new world, embracing the pura vida lifestyle.
