Uniting for a Cure

The fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

In 2019, our family received devastating news: my grandson Shepherd was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare and fatal disease.

Duchenne is an aggressive muscle-wasting disorder that begins with the larger muscles in the legs and eventually attacks the smaller muscles in the heart and lungs. Most boys diagnosed with Duchenne lose the ability to walk by age 12, and many lose their lives in their late 20s.

Receiving this information was unimaginably heartbreaking. As a parent and grandparent, I felt compelled to become a beacon of hope, using my voice to spread awareness and rally support.

After extensive research and careful consideration, I connected with CureDuchenne, a nonprofit founded by Debra and Paul Miller, whose personal story resonates deeply with ours.

But that’s not enough for Shepherd and the almost 15,000 boys and young men battling this disease in the U.S. alone. The cure is within reach, but we need your assistance.
