Healing and Support After Losing a Loved One

Losing a spouse after many years of companionship can be a profoundly lonely experience. Fortunately, the Widowed Persons Support Group (WPS) in Dallas has been a beacon of hope for widows and widowers navigating the difficult journey of spousal loss. Since its founding in 1984, WPS has provided invaluable emotional support and social activities that help individuals rediscover purpose and joy.

Dancing events are a fun time for everyone.

WPS offers a comprehensive six-week support group session and various ongoing social activities to foster fellowship and community as participants enter a new phase. The support group meets weekly at Walnut Place in Dallas, led by Lilly Adrian, a Certified Grief Counselor. Social activities include dining out at local venues, dancing, movie, and game nights, visiting museums and plays, and attending special events. Quarterly meetings at Brookhaven Country Club provide additional opportunities for fellowship and entertainment.

This group reminds me that I am not alone on this journey,” says Maggi P. “In our sessions, we share experiences that only widows can truly understand. It has provided me with a sense of community. While I did not choose to join the widow’s world, I am grateful to be surrounded by such a compassionate group of individuals.

As a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit run entirely by volunteers, WPS thrives on the kindness and generosity of its members and supporters. While membership is free, joining requires a simple sign-up, and donations are always welcomed with gratitude to help continue our mission.

Mary Burnett, President of WPS, shared her personal experience: “When I lost my husband, I was still working, and the Widowed Persons Support Group helped me through the initial loss. It enabled me to reach out and make new friends. Over time, I became more active with the group because it helps so many people find new purpose in their lives.”

Join us as we celebrate 40 incredible years of service to the Dallas community with a special dinner at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch on Tuesday, October 8th, at 5 pm. If you have lost a loved one, this is the perfect opportunity to make new friends and find companionship.

More than just a meal, this event celebrates our shared journey and is a testament to the hope and joy that WPS brings to countless lives. Join us for an evening filled with lively music and dance tunes with Doc Gibbs. Immerse yourself in a program that showcases WPS’s impactful work, honors longtime members, and reveals our vision for the future. Your generous donations are always appreciated and empower us to continue our mission, providing new purpose to many widows and widowers and their families.
