A Free Creative Reset: One Sharpie, One Hour

No experience required — just an open mind and an hour to yourself.

What can a black Sharpie and a blank sheet of paper do for a busy mind? More than you’d think. Artist CJ Miller is inviting fyi50+ readers to a free creative reset he calls the Studio Reset, a live Zoom hour built around art and mindfulness rather than skill or technique. There’s nothing to buy and nothing to prove. Just a marker, some paper, and an open mind.

What is the Studio Reset?

The Studio Reset is a simple creative practice that uses nothing more than a marker and a large sheet of white paper. Together, you and CJ will explore how a few spontaneous lines can quiet the mind, relieve stress, reconnect with the body, and reveal what wants to emerge next. This kind of mindful drawing isn’t about the finished page — it’s about what happens while you make it.

How can art and mindfulness ease stress?

When you put pen to paper without a plan, your attention settles into the present moment, the same place mindfulness practices try to take you. That’s why art and mindfulness work so well together: the hand keeps moving while the mind grows quiet. A short session of mindful drawing can loosen the grip of a stressful day and leave you feeling grounded, much the way a good walk or a few slow breaths can.

What to expect in your hour

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or scattered, or you’re simply curious where art and mindfulness meet, this hour is a gentle place to start. No experience is required, and there’s no right way to do it. You’ll leave with a simple doodling practice, your own personal creative reset, that you can return to anytime you need clarity, grounding, or a fresh start.
