Meatball Magic: Try This Italian Burger!

This must-make recipe adds an Italian flair to your favorite hamburger. With melted cheese and marinara sauce, these Italian-style burgers will be an instant hit. Your grandkids will love your new creation and keep coming back for more.


Servings: 8  |  Prep Time: 10 minutes  |  Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

BURGERS

    • ½ cup dry Italian-style breadcrumbs
    • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
    • ¼ cup shredded fresh Parmesan cheese
    • 1 egg
    • 1½ pounds 90% lean ground beef
    • 8 ounces bulk mild Italian pork sausage or Italian chicken sausage
    • canola oil spray

BUNS 

    • 8 hamburger buns

TOPPINGS

    • 1½ cups marinara sauce
    • 8 slices provolone cheese

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine all burger ingredients. Mix until combined.
  2. Spray a large grill pan or skillet with the canola oil. 
  3. Heat the pan over medium heat 3–5 minutes. 
  4. Place half of the buns, cut side down, into the pan. 
  5. Heat 30–60 seconds until lightly toasted.  Repeat with remaining buns and set aside.
  6. Using ½ cup of meat mixture, press into a patty—repeat (8 burgers).
  7. Put burgers in pan.  Cook for 3–4 minutes (one side).
  8. Place marinara sauce in a small bowl and cover. Microwave on high for 1–2 minutes.
  9. Turn burgers over. Top each with a provolone cheese slice and one tablespoon of marinara.
  10. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the internal temperature is 160°F.
  11. Place burgers on buns. Serve.
