We all have a few practices that we’d like to change. In “Better Than Before,” we learn how to understand our habits, make a plan that works, and change some of those habits for good. Psychology Today explains that we learn that “consciously intervening” in our own habitual behavior won’t typically come naturally, meaning that breaking a habit “can require some consideration and effort.” Gretchen Rubin was aware of this and took it into account in her writing. This book is an excellent option for those looking to change their lives for the better and seek advice on changing and refining habits.

In this book, we see a focus on practical tips for those who tend to be more skeptical. Written by Dan Harris, it includes his story on how he deals with his restlessness and ADD. Those with ADD know that fidgeting, difficulty concentrating, and sleep deficiency are common issues. Some find that they can be addressed, however, via regular meditation. And unlike some other guides of this sort that treat meditation as an easy practice to embrace, Harris’s approach acknowledges the challenge. Per NPR’s review of “Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics,” the author “set out to discover why it’s so hard to start and stick with the practice.”
