Eyes and Neck—Vital Areas to Target On Your Skincare Journey

When it comes to the appearance of signs of age, we often notice distinct changes in the way the skin on our face looks and feels. We see the loss of firmness, uneven texture, and dark spots.

But the face isn’t the only area to show obvious signs of age. Our eyes and neck do as well. These areas can often show clear signs of age long before it becomes noticeable on the face.

The good news is that you can take steps to make sure your eye area and neck are protected and not neglected.

Give Eye Love

The eyes can say a lot when it comes to expression and nonverbal communication but what your eyes can’t tell you is they need special, targeted care to keep their delicate surroundings firm and smooth.

Eyes are said to be the focal point of the face, so when you develop lines, wrinkles, and puffiness in this area, it can result in an overall tired-looking appearance. The skin around the eyes is very different from the skin on the rest of the face. It’s much thinner, more delicate and lacks the ability to produce natural moisture like other parts of the face and body. With age, the skin around the eyes can become even thinner and laxer with the breakdown of collagen coupled with certain lifestyle and environmental factors like smoking and sun exposure.

Give the skin around your eyes the treatment it needs with ingredients that help moisturize, firm, and protect like hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate, Vitamins A and E to help protect against free radical damage, and Ceramides to help replenish and maintain vital moisture levels.

Choose a cream specifically formulated for the delicate skin around the eyes and drink plenty of water to prevent internal dehydration, which can contribute to the appearance of puffiness and dark circles. Keep in mind that the delicate eye area can only absorb so much hydration at one time so, apply eye cream with your ring finger using a light tapping motion around the orbital area until absorbed.

Perfect the Neck

The skin on the neck, like the fragile skin around the eyes, is much thinner than the rest of the face—it is subject to forces like gravity and almost constant movement.

Thinner skin produces significantly less collagen, making it more vulnerable to showing signs of age earlier. Additionally, the skin on the neck doesn’t produce much of its own natural oils or moisture, so it is vital to treat it with special care to keep it looking firm and youthful. Just as exfoliation, hydration, and protection are essential to bright, healthy-looking skin on the face, so is the same for the skin on the neck.

Most skincare concerns like rough texture, crepiness and dark patches can easily be addressed with the same potent wrinkle fighting ingredients you find in your facial moisturizer. So, remember to extend your skincare treatments onto the neck and chest area during both your day and evening regimen to help keep the skin visibly firm and smooth. Focus on consistency with ingredients like Retinol and Vitamin C, which can help stimulate collagen and result in a tighter, more lifted appearance of the neck area over time.

Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 or greater daily for the best possible protection against free radical damage and the risk of skin cancer.

Also, remember, consistency is the key to great skincare results! Just a few minutes each morning and night can prove beneficial in the fight against premature of aging not only for the face but also the eyes and neck.
