Bigger is Better!

When Going by the Numbers, Bigger is Better!

There is a good chance that you are wearing “cheaters” to read this magazine, or are holding it at arm’s length to focus. I never thought large digital display screens would be something I looked for but these days I am thankful that companies are adding products for folks who need help reading scales and measures.

Escali, RIVIO and EatSmart all manufacture large digital display bathroom scales that make glancing at the few pounds I’ve lost (or gained) easier than ever.

If weighing portions is in your routine, Salter, AccuWeight 201, and Merful kitchen scales have bold, bright digital displays.

Clocks from Clear Clock, DayClox and American Lifetime not only feature large bright numbers but also the day, date, time of day (afternoon, evening, etc.) and some have multiple alarm options.

Advocate, Advantage and Omron blood pressure monitors have large displays that make reading and logging your numbers a breeze.

For the DIY folks who struggle with that sixteenth of an inch mark, General Tools produces a laser/tape measure with a large display screen, eTape has several models and for those who work with very precision measures, DANIU makes a digital caliper ruler.

Whether you fork, probe or flip a rod, there is a large digital display thermometer for your cooking convenience.

Taylor produces candy/deep fry digital thermometers while William Sonoma has a model that is programmable. Both TopElek and MIGVELA sell BBQ meat thermometers with large digital displays and wireless Bluetooth. If you want to test the temp in your crisper or icemaker, the Taylor fridge/freezer thermometers come with big number displays and one features a time monitor with little smiley and frowny face icons to let you know when your yogurt is not happy.

I was surprised to find tire pressure gauges have taken a digital turn too. Craftsman has an easy-to-read programmable digital tire gauge and the Michelin MN-4203B has a combined tire gauge and tread depth indicator.

Bigger isn’t always better, but larger numbers do make my days much, much easier.
