Ask the Organizer

Are you easily DISTRACTED and DISORGANIZED where CHAOS and CONFUSION rule your life…? Do you feel like you’re living in a Traditionally Organized World when you’re not…? You’ve come to the right place for answers!

Dear Organizer Coach,
I’m downsizing from a 3,500 sq. foot home and moving into a 2,000 sq. foot two-bedroom townhouse. My dilemma is that all of my furniture, and belongings won’t fit into my new home. HELP! How do I start downsizing?—“Stuffed to the Rafters”

Dear Stuffed to the Rafters,

Congratulations on your new life chapter! Downsizing is like an onion – peeling away one layer at a time.

Ask yourself the following questions to help you begin downsizing:

  • What’s my goal?
  • What’s important to me? …(time, things, family, travel, etc.…?)
  • How can I bless other people with my stuff? (family, friends, charities, etc.)
  • What brings me joy, makes me look and feel good?

Once you have answered these questions, enlist help… a friend, Professional Organizer, etc. to help you edit your belongings and reach your new goals. Slow and steady wins the race!

Remember to celebrate baby steps as you progress.

Good luck and keep me posted on your progress!
